About the Conference
Afrotellers 2024 is set to bring together storytellers from various parts of the continent to Johannesburg, South Africa, for an engaging 3-day event.
The annual conference aims to become the leading gathering of Afrikan storytellers, including development storytellers, journalists, artists, communicators, digital storytellers, designers, creatives, and brand builders. Its purpose is to create a safe space for critical conversation and fresh insights that embolden Afrikans to take back control of their stories, challenge the status quo, and influence the storytelling scene both locally and globally.
Theme and Objectives
The theme for the inaugural Afrotellers Conference is “Beyond borders: Mapping new frontiers of Afrikan narratives”.
The conference discussions will be be guided by these three objectives
and will seek to interrogate the following questions:
Facilitating Afrikan storytelling beyond colonial and sector borders and divides.
How do we chart a course towards a future where Afrikan storytelling truly transcends borders, fosters connection and collaboration, and catalyzes positive change across Afrika and beyond?
Mapping new frontiers for Afrikan storytelling through reclaiming Afrikan narratives and challenging conventional boundaries
How do we ignite a paradigm shift in Afrikan storytelling by emboldening Afrikan storytellers to challenge conventional boundaries and reimagine the narrative landscape of the continent?
Promoting Afrikan voices and narratives through the celebration of culture, heritage, and excellence.
How can consistently and purposefully spotlighting, experiencing, and promoting Afrikan arts, narratives, culture, traditions, and voices spark a fresh appreciation for authentic and ethical Afrikan storytelling?
